Every child begins their journey here.
Why Foundations First™? At Schieber Swim School, our mission isn't simply to teach children how to swim—it's to equip them with the life-saving skills they need to respond during an unexpected water emergency. Using our proprietary Foundations First™ Swim Framework, every lesson builds upon the last in a carefully designed progression that develops confidence, independence, and reliable self-rescue skills. Because every child learns differently, we meet each swimmer where they are and move at a pace that encourages success while maintaining the highest standards of safety. Unlike traditional swim lessons that focus primarily on strokes, our priority is teaching children the skills that matter most first: floating, rolling to breathe, recovering from an unexpected entry, and safely reaching the side of the pool. What Can I Expect? Our lessons are sold in 4-week sessions, but self-rescue is a journey—not a single class. While every child progresses at their own pace, our long-term data shows: Children under age 3 typically achieve reliable self-rescue skills in 12–20 lessons. Children age 3 and older typically achieve reliable self-rescue skills in 12–16 lessons, with many older children progressing even more quickly. These averages are based on thousands of swimmers and assume consistent weekly attendance and practice at home. Our goal has always been to help children achieve the highest level of water safety in the shortest amount of time possible. Once those foundational self-rescue skills are mastered, swimmers graduate into our Foundations First™ Graduate Programs, where they can maintain those life-saving skills or continue developing advanced swimming technique. Every child begins with a strong foundation-because confident swimmers are built one skill at a time.

Foundations First™ Adaptive Self-Rescue Program

Why Foundations First™ Adaptive Lessons? Every child deserves the opportunity to become safe and confident in the water. Our Foundations First™ Adaptive Program is designed for swimmers with autism, Down syndrome, ADHD, sensory processing differences, anxiety, developmental delays, physical disabilities, medical conditions, and other unique learning needs. We understand that no two children learn the same way, which is why every lesson is individualized to meet your child where they are. Rather than expecting your child to fit a predetermined teaching style, we adapt our instruction, communication, pacing, and environment to help each swimmer succeed while continuing to work toward the same life-saving self-rescue skills taught throughout our Foundations First™ Swim Framework. Our focus is building trust first, confidence second, and independence always. What Can I Expect? Every child progresses at their own pace, and there is no "typical" timeline. Some swimmers move quickly through the curriculum, while others require additional time to become comfortable, regulated, and confident in the water. Lessons are private, individualized, and tailored to your child's specific strengths, challenges, sensory needs, communication style, and learning preferences. We celebrate every milestone because every step forward matters. Our goal remains the same for every swimmer: to provide the highest level of water safety possible while creating positive experiences that build confidence for years to come. Whether your child needs a slower pace, visual supports, sensory accommodations, or simply an instructor who understands how they learn best, we're committed to helping them succeed—one foundation at a time.
Every swimmer deserves the opportunity to learn life-saving water safety skills. We believe differences should never be barriers to drowning prevention.

Foundations First™ Stroke Development Program

Why Foundations First™ Stroke Development?
Once a swimmer has mastered independent self-rescue, they're ready to build upon that foundation with stronger swimming technique. Our Foundations First™ Stroke Development Program, taught by Coach Renārs, is designed for graduates who are ready to improve stroke mechanics, endurance, efficiency, and overall confidence in the water. While self-rescue will always remain the foundation of our program, these lessons allow swimmers to continue growing beyond survival skills and develop strong, technically sound swimming habits that will benefit them for years to come. Whether your child hopes to become a stronger recreational swimmer, prepare for competitive swimming, or simply become more efficient and confident in the water, each lesson is tailored to their individual goals and ability level.
What Can I Expect? Stroke Development lessons are offered on Tuesdays with Coach Renārs and are available to swimmers who have completed the Foundations First™ Self-Rescue Program or demonstrate the necessary foundational skills. Lessons focus on proper body position, stroke mechanics, breathing techniques, endurance, efficiency, starts, turns, and overall swimming confidence. Because every swimmer develops differently, each lesson is individualized to help your child continue progressing toward their personal goals. Families are welcome to schedule as many lessons as they would like based on availability, with no minimum or maximum booking requirement.
